There are 3 major kinds of Tulsi plants. They are:

Rama Tulsi or Green Leaf Tulsi

This is a green Tulsi which has light flowers (they are purple in colour) and a clove like scent. The flavour of it is mellower.

Krishna Tulsi or ShyamaTulsi

It is a purple plant which has an aroma of cloves and a peppery flower.

VanaTulsi or Wild Leaf Tulsi

This one is a light green Tulsi plant and as per the name it grows wild in a lot of areas in Asia and Northern and Eastern parts of Africa.They have a lemon like aroma and the flavour is also the same.

Among the three above mentioned types of Tulis, the Krishna Tulsi is said to have the highest medicinal value and so it is very beneficial for human health. Then comes the Rama Tulsi on the scale of benefits. VanaTulsi does not have much benefits but when it is blended with the other 2 types then it can give a pleasing flavour.

When it comes to Ayurveda, then Tulsi is mainly used for:

  • Bronchitis, asthma, colds, coughs, congestion, flu, sore throat and other ailments.
  • High cholesterol and high blood pressure.
  • Ear aches, Headaches and eye issues.
  • Insect bites and skin inflammation.
  • Gastric disorders, intestinal parasites, ulcers, vomiting and mouth disease.
  • Blood sugar imbalances and diabetes.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Kidney stones
  • Malaria

Tulsi is said to have great medicinal benefits. It is a very powerful adaptogenic herb which can actually reduce stress issues and also help one who suffers from severe asthma attacks. It is anti inflammatory in nature and also has a high anti oxidant content. Tulsi can protect the liver and prevents the radiation and chemical toxins from harming it. So, if one is undergoing chemotherapy then one can easily use Tulsi.

Tulsi tea is also said to provide great relief from a lot of things. One can make a herbal infusion of tea when it comes to Tulsi. One can use dried tulsi leaves or tulsi powder to make a cup of tea and drink it to get instant relief from cough and cold.
